Welcome to GenPro

As the largest independent association in the country, we represent more than 475 general practices and urgent care centres as their trusted and united voice.

High-quality primary care health services are a vital part of our health system. We advocate and negotiate on behalf of GenPro members to ensure the viability and sustainability of New Zealand's essential family doctor services.

We believe that well-supported, valued and appropriately resourced general practice benefits patients and their communities and promotes better health care for all New Zealanders.

Who is GenPro?

GenPro Members are owners and providers of general practices and urgent care centres throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. They value the support, collaboration, advocacy and representation that our independent association delivers.

Working together in unity, our voice is stronger and our message more compelling.

Established by general practice, for general practice, GenPro is governed by leaders who are well connected with their primary care colleagues and have firsthand experience of the pressures facing practices.

Why join GenPro?

Through GenPro, members both shape and benefit from the strong and united voice of general practice representation. And, we are making an impact.

We are proud that GenPro’s united voice has influenced Government policy and decision-making, resulting in significant and positive changes, including:

  • A significant 13% increase in funding for general practice (around $1.5billion)
  • Modernising the capitation system to better reflect the needs of patients
  • Minister of Health announcing the establishment of a primary care advisory group

Current priorities include equitable pay for doctors, nurses, and others working in primary care, increase in workforce training, recruitment and retention, and ensuring fair and appropriate funding for current and new services delivered through primary care.
